Halloween on the High Seas Review: Is It Worth It?
Our Honest Take on Disney Cruise Line's Halloween Sailing Aboard the Disney Wish

Our Halloween on the High Seas Experience on the Disney Wish
We sailed aboard the Disney Wish on September 4, 2026, for a 3-night cruise from Port Canaveral, experiencing Disney Cruise Line's Halloween on the High Seas. With Halloween-themed decorations, special character meet-and-greets, festive food and drinks, and a Halloween deck party, we were excited to see how Disney brought the holiday to life at sea.
While there were some fun seasonal touches, our overall experience was a little underwhelming. If you're considering booking a Disney cruise specifically for Halloween on the High Seas, here's what we experienced and what we'd recommend for other families.
Halloween Decorations Around the Ship
One of the highlights was seeing the Halloween decorations throughout the Disney Wish. The ship featured a few festive touches, including the pumpkin tree, fall leaf decorations along the bannisters, and Halloween window clings in some of the porthole windows.
These details added a seasonal feel to the ship without completely transforming the onboard experience. The pumpkin tree was a fun feature to see, and the decorations made for a few festive photo opportunities.
We also noticed quite a few staterooms decorated for Halloween! If you enjoy decorating your cruise stateroom, this is a fun opportunity to get creative and give your room a festive, seasonal look. Many families embraced the Halloween theme, adding another fun touch to the overall experience.
That said, we expected a little more Halloween atmosphere throughout the ship. The decorations were enjoyable, but they weren't extensive enough to make the entire cruise feel like a major Halloween celebration.
Halloween Character Meet-and-Greets
Halloween on the High Seas included special Halloween character meet-and-greets, which were a fun opportunity for families to see some of their favorite Disney characters in seasonal outfits.
The biggest downside was the wait. Lines for the character experiences were very long, making it difficult to fit everything into a short 3-night cruise. With so much to do onboard, spending a significant portion of the day waiting to meet characters meant less time for other activities.
If meeting the Halloween characters is a priority for your family, check the schedule early and plan accordingly. On a short sailing, you'll want to be strategic about which experiences matter most to you.
Trick-or-Treating: Not a Traditional Experience
One of our biggest disappointments was the trick-or-treating experience.
We expected something closer to traditional trick-or-treating, with multiple stations around the ship where kids could walk from stop to stop collecting candy. Instead, we were provided with one large bag of candy.
While we appreciated the candy, the experience itself felt underwhelming. Trick-or-treating is such a classic part of Halloween, especially for kids, and having multiple stations would have made it feel much more interactive and memorable.
For us, this was a missed opportunity to make the holiday experience more special for families.
Halloween-Themed Food and Drinks
There were some fun Halloween-inspired food and beverage options available during the cruise, including seasonal items at the coffee bars.
These themed treats were a nice way to incorporate the holiday into the onboard dining experience. If you enjoy trying seasonal food and drinks, keep an eye out for these special offerings during your sailing.
While the themed items were a fun extra, they weren't enough on their own to make Halloween on the High Seas feel like a significantly different cruise experience.
The Halloween Deck Party and Pirate Night
This was probably the most confusing part of our Halloween on the High Seas experience.
On our 3-night Disney Wish cruise, the Halloween deck party took place on the same night as Pirate Night. That meant two themed celebrations were happening together, which felt chaotic rather than festive.
It also left us unsure about what to wear. Should we dress up in Halloween costumes or wear our pirate outfits? With both events happening on the same evening, it wasn't clear how families were expected to approach the two themes.
We would have much preferred to see Halloween night and Pirate Night scheduled on separate evenings. That would have given each celebration its own moment and allowed families to enjoy both experiences without having to choose between costumes or feel like they were missing part of the fun.
On a short cruise, the schedule matters, and combining two big themed events into one night made the experience feel rushed and confusing.
Is Halloween on the High Seas Worth It?
Our biggest takeaway is that Halloween on the High Seas is a fun bonus if you're already planning to sail during the season, but we wouldn't pay a premium specifically for the Halloween experience.
There were things we enjoyed, including the pumpkin tree, seasonal decorations, Halloween character appearances, themed treats, and seeing how other families decorated their staterooms. However, the limited trick-or-treating, long character lines, and combined Halloween and Pirate Night celebrations left us wanting more.
For a holiday experience that Disney markets as a special themed cruise, we expected more activities and a more immersive Halloween atmosphere.
Who Would Enjoy Halloween on the High Seas?
Halloween on the High Seas may be a good fit if:
You're already planning a Disney cruise during the Halloween season.
Your family enjoys Disney character meet-and-greets and seasonal photo opportunities.
You like trying themed food and drinks.
You enjoy decorating your stateroom for the holidays.
You want a little Halloween fun without needing to plan a separate holiday event.
You may want to think twice about paying extra specifically for this experience if:
Traditional trick-or-treating is a big priority for your kids.
You expect extensive Halloween decorations throughout the ship.
You want a full schedule of Halloween-specific activities.
You'd prefer Halloween festivities and Pirate Night to happen on separate evenings.
Final Thoughts: Would We Do Halloween on the High Seas Again?
We enjoyed experiencing Halloween on the High Seas aboard the Disney Wish, but it wasn't quite what we expected. The seasonal decorations, character meet-and-greets, themed treats, and festive staterooms added some fun touches to our cruise, but the overall experience felt limited.
Our advice? If the dates work for your family and you're already planning a Disney cruise, sailing during Halloween on the High Seas can be a fun way to add a little seasonal magic to your vacation. Just keep your expectations realistic.
We wouldn't pay a premium solely for Halloween on the High Seas. We'd rather choose the cruise itinerary and dates that work best for our family and treat the Halloween activities as an extra perk.
At the end of the day, we still got to enjoy a Disney cruise aboard the Disney Wish — and for us, that's the main attraction.
